In today’s newsletter, I’m sharing a vlog update on this month’s reporting trips and two upcoming deep-dive series that I’ve been working on for the site and YouTube. Plus, this month’s confession.

Before I stepped away from Axios full-time, I started a blog on my LinkedIn called “Confessions of a Modern Journalist.”
It was a place for me to talk about my journalism practice — and along the way, I discovered that transparency helped connect me to new audiences.
I’m continuing on that path with these monthly vlogs and columns here. It’s important, I think, to show the thinking behind my work, because journalism is based on trust. And the more you know where I’m coming from, what my motivations are, the more trust I’ll gain and the better my reporting and conversations will be.
In this column, I want to share some of the ups and downs I’ve had in this first year or so of Macro Talk. Some of these challenges may sound familiar if you follow other independent journalists. But there's one I haven't seen talked about much — balance.
